I was the sales manager in Tarweej Student Company for the year 2008. It was chosen as the best student company representing Palestine in Muscat. This experience had a great impact on my life: for the first time I gave a presentation in front of a large audience and a jury. I was then the sales manager, so I learned management and economics skills, and how to make strategic plans for the three projects that the company undertook, represented in the “tislam eidak” (thanks for lending a helping hand) exhibition and in two marketing magazines, and in the promoting and selling of home products for Balsam Company. I managed to build team spirit at work and that helped me overcome the problems that I encountered by defining the nature of the problem, developing a number of solutions and then choosing the best one. More importantly, I learned time management. Working at Tarweej Student Company for a period of one year had no negative impact on my academic performance; on the contrary, it enriched my experience and my knowledge in business and economic management. It also helped me get over my fear in presenting my ideas clearly and concisely, which had a great and a positive impact on my life as a university student. Due to doing really well, the company chose me to represent Palestine in an international competition held in Washington D.C. between many countries of the world, and we won an international award “The Spirit of Jessip”. Subsequently, I was chosen as one of the best law students, to participate in the “Justice of the Future” program, which was adopted by the Palestinian Ministry of Justice. I then received training in Palestinian courts for two months before finishing my studies. This is in addition to participating in many human rights conferences in Lebanon and Jordan. I was chosen also from among five students from Palestine, to participate in the Arab leadership program, which intends to give students the opportunity to take a summer course in politics, economics and civil society organizations at Georgetown University, in Washington D.C.
My participation in all of these activities did not affect my GPA at the university, as I was on the Dean’s list for three times and graduated with a GPA of 84.8%.
I used to go to the bank at the age of 16 and work in the sales department of the Arab Bank, and that helped me become aware of the importance of work and the importance of studying hard to increase my chances in getting a decent job.
In the beginning, it was just a student company, but it certainly helped me become aware of the skills that I already possessed and opened the way for me to participate, speak and represent my country in all competitions. It was the first time that I traveled abroad without my family. I was with a team of participants representing my country. It will thus be impossible for me to forget such experiences and if I can go back to the time when I was a child, I will repeat these experiences for a thousand time.
